How to choose a weapon
Match the weapon's passive to how the character deals damage, not just to the rarity. An A-Rank W-Engine that matches the kit often beats a mismatched S-Rank — Lunar Plenitude on Soukaku and Kaboom the Cannon on Nekomata are the clearest examples.
Best Signature Light Cones (5★)s
Signature Light Cones are the limited 5★ weapons made for specific characters. They have the highest stat budgets and passives tailored to one kit, and they define each carry's ceiling.

Verdict
Do not pull on the weapon banner until your character roster is set. Every archetype has a strong craftable or event weapon, and the gap between a signature weapon and a refined 4-star is usually 10-20% — far less than the value of an extra character.
